Guide to Tailoring

Getting the Necessary Skills

If you would like to be a tailor in Mabinogi, there are three essential skills you will need to pick up, all of which are available right at the beginning of the game.

They are; Weaving, Tailoring, and Production Mastery.

To learn Tailoring, all you need to do is purchase a Tailoring Kit from Nora and equip it.

To learn Weaving, you will have to wait until you have the Campfire skill, then speak to Malcom and ask him about skills.  Shortly after speaking to him you will recieve a quest o shear sheep.  Once you complete this quest he will teach you the Weaving skill.

To learn Production Mastery, you will have to do the first few beginning quests, you should receive it pretty shortly aftwards, once you get the quest all you have to do is talk to Alissa at the Windmill.

Tailoring

Tailoring is really a lot easier then it looks.  To begin tailoring, you will first need the Tailoring skill, once you have the skill you will need the following items:

  • Tailoring Kit (Purchase from Nora)
  • Sewing Pattern (Purchase from Nora)
  • Finishing Thread (Purchase from Nora)
  • Materials required for the Sewing Pattern (Purchase from Nora)
  • About 3000 gold to get through the first two skill levels (You should have much more than this if you just completed the first few quests)

If you’re just starting, the best item you can craft is the Hairband.

First, equip the Tailoring Kit, then equip the Sewing Pattern for the Hairband in your other hand.  Then buy a stack of 5 Cheap Fabric and a stack of 5 Cheap Finishing Thread from Nora.  Make sure you don’t purchase the Fine or Finest Finish Thread, as they are much more expensive and will not work with this pattern.

Mabinogi - Tailoring

Now you can start tailoring, drag the Tailoring skill onto your hotkey bar to save a lot of time.  Then use the skill.  Shift+Click your stack of Cheap Fabric and press enter to only pick up one piece, then drop it into the Tailoring window.  Then click Start.

If it finished completely, you will be left with a 99.9% Complete Hairband, were almost done here.  If it doesn’t finish completely, you will need to repeat the last step until you get a 99.9% Complete Hairband.

Now use the Tailoring skill one more time, this time you will have to put one Cheap Finishing Thread into the materials window (Don’t forget to shift click your stack, no need to waste five when it only need one!).

Once you are ready click start, then you will be taken to a very easy mini-game of sorts;

Mabinog - Tailoring

the object of this mini-game is quite simple.  What you have to do is connect the X’s with the O’s.  Simply click once on an X, then with the mouse button held down, drag the needle to the next O, then release the mouse button.  You will have to do this for each X, once you’ve connext them all, click anywhere within the mini-game to end it.

Based on how accurate your clicks were will determine the quality of your item, if you did really bad you will lose durability on the Hairband, if you did well you will get extra durability and sometimes extra bonuses such as +1 Protection.

A Couple Facts About Tailoring (mostly taken from the wiki)

  • Tailoring allows the player to create clothes and light armor.
  • To use the skill, the player must have a Tailoring Kit and Manual equipped.
  • It is possible to create clothes and light armor that are better quality than sold by NPC’s.
  • In order to get a “Very good result”, the rank of the Sewing Pattern must be at least +2 higher than the player’s skill rank.
  • It is possible to train the skill by doing Part-Time Jobs offered by NPC’s.
  • Please see the Tailoring List for a list of items that can be created by Tailoring.
  • When creating an item by Tailoring, the player must first “complete” the item to 99.9% by using the appropriate materials. After reaching 99.9%, the player is then prompted to “finish” the item by using specific finishing materials. Upon activating this last step, the player must then complete a Tailoring mini-game within a certain time limit to finish the clothing.
  • Clothing produced will be of a random color.
  • If an unfinished item is dropped on the ground, it cannot be picked up by other players except the creator, and will disappear within a certain amount of time. However, unfinished items can be traded between players.
