NPCs

NPCs stands for Non-player characters and are the characters in-game that you can interact with in various ways. They are responsible for teaching skills, maintaining general shops, giving quests, teaching skills, etc. Mabinogi uses 'A Travel Diary' as the main way for interacting with NPCs.

A Travel Diary is the notebook on the right side of the conversation panel. You are given five basic options at the beginning of the game for interacting with NPCs, but as you progress through the game, NPCs will offer you new keywords to trigger different reactions for certain NPCs.

NPCs can also develop fondness for players. If the level of this intimacy gets high enough, more options will become available for the player for that certain NPC. An example is private shops.

Some NPCs have retained memorable moments in their lives in the form of objects like a locket or dagger. These items can be activated once when dropped on the alter of certain dungeons, allowing the player to relive the past of that specific NPC.
